Alicia Dawn (Cox) Blackwood, a radiant soul born on March 19, 1992, in Arkansas, departed this world on June 23, 2025, in Ashville, Alabama. She was 33 years old. Alicia's journey through life was marked by her unwavering love for family, her passion for animals, and her creative spirit.
Alicia was a beloved daughter, wife, sister, and friend. She is survived by her devoted husband, Shane Blackwood, who was her partner in life and love. She cherished her role as a stepmother to Oliver and Annaleesa Blackwood, welcoming them into her heart with open arms and unmatched affection. Her mother, Susan Thrift, and her maternal grandparents, Rodney and Daisy McCoy, stood by her side, offering love and support throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her cousin, Levi Ingle, whose memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. Alicia leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion, and is also survived by her brother, Sammy Ray Cox II, and his wife, Jessica; her sister, Susan Lachelle Thrift; and her cherished aunts, Geneva Cofield and Brittnee McCoy. Her cousin, Kym Minor, along with numerous other family members and friends, will miss her dearly.
Alicia's devotion to animals was evident in her work at Crossing Paths Animal Rescue, where she dedicated her time and energy to caring for those creatures who were often forgotten. She adored animals and found joy in the simple moments shared with them. Beyond her compassion for animals, Alicia had a creative side that flourished through her love of arts and crafts. Her hands created beauty, reflecting the kindness that filled her heart.
Most importantly, Alicia loved her family deeply. She nurtured her relationships with an open heart and embraced every moment with laughter, joy, and a generous spirit. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she found happiness in the time spent with them, creating memories that will live on in their hearts.
A Celebration of Life for Alicia will be announced at a later date at Redeemed Ministries. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to assist with her funeral expenses, allowing them to honor her memory in a manner befitting the love she shared.
Alicia Dawn (Cox) Blackwood will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all those who were fortunate enough to know her. May her legacy of love, compassion, and creativity inspire us all to live fully and cherish our family and friends.
