Benny Jackson Dorsett, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and cherished member of his community, passed away on March 19, 2026. Born on January 23, 1948, Benny lived a life marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering commitment to family and country.

Nurtured and raised by his uncle Jack Marsh and his grandmother, affectionately known as Momma Lillie Bell Marsh, Benny’s early years were shaped by their strong guidance and support. His love for family remained a cornerstone throughout his life, instilling in him values that endured across generations.

A proud veteran, Benny served bravely in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His patriotism and service were sources of great pride, reflecting the deep sense of duty that characterized his every endeavor. Beyond his military service, Benny was a man of remarkable work ethic — working three jobs and attending school simultaneously while raising a family, demonstrating his extraordinary resilience and determination.

Benny had a profound love for the outdoors. He cherished days spent fishing and hunting, activities through which he found joy and a connection to nature. His practical sense of humor and fondness for sweet treats made him a treasured presence, always ready with a playful joke to brighten the day. Farming and tending to his garden were among his favorite pastimes, where he found peace and fulfillment. Throughout his life, his loyal dog Nick remained his steadfast sidekick, sharing countless adventures.

His legacy continues through the many family members who were blessed to know his warmth and generosity. Benny is survived by his daughters, Kelly Rizzo (Matt) and Kim Oden (Darryl), whose lives he enriched profoundly. His grandchildren Maegan Daily (Justin), Drew White (Beth), Morgan Gargus, Cameron White, Vincent Rizzo (Kendra), and Kendall Rizzo carry forward his spirit, as do his great-grandchildren Mia Rizzo, Avery Gargus, Parker White, Colton Gargus, and Landry White. Benny also leaves behind his brothers Larry Boyle and Ronnie Boyle, who shared in his journey through life’s many chapters.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Norma Dorsett, whose partnership defined much of his life’s story; his father, Carl Dorsett; and his mother, Lucille Marsh Boyle. Though deeply mourned, their memories remain living parts of Benny’s heart.

A visitation to honor Benny’s life will be held on March 25, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland, Alabama, followed by a funeral service starting at 2:00 p.m. The day will culminate with a burial at Nectar Cemetery beginning at 3:00 p.m. Loved ones and friends are invited to join in remembering a man who gave so much and loved so deeply.
