David McCook, aged 74, passed away on August 30, 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama. Born on November 21, 1950, in Florida, David was known for his hardworking, enduring, kind, and loving nature. He adored his family deeply and dedicated much of his life to their happiness and well-being.
David proudly served in the U.S. Army, where he embraced the discipline and camaraderie that military life afforded. His service to his country was a significant part of his identity, and he continued to contribute to his fellow veterans through his active involvement with the American Legion Post 205 and the Legion Riders.
Beyond his military and family commitments, David was an avid enthusiast of riding his motorcycle, watching football, and following NASCAR races. These hobbies provided him not only with immense pleasure but also with a sense of community and friendship.
David is survived by his loving wife of 46 years; Vicki Shelton McCook; his sons, David McCook (Kai) and Joseph McCook; daughters, Jessica Bearden, Jennifer Shelton, and Brandie McCook; brother, Robbie McCook (Shelly); sister, Dicse Gowan; sister-in-law, Tina Shelton; and special nieces Heather, Chelsea Beynon, Melissa Condon (Bill), and their son, Jaxon. His grandchildren include Ashley Quick, Heather Shelton, Ethan Bearden, Christian Hinson, Danielle Hinson, Eric Hinson, and Alexis Hinson. His great-grandchild Londyn Streeter, He was preceded in death by his father, Joe R. and Ann Ladouceur McCook; mother Marilyn Strock Ivory; his son, Daniel McCook; and his nephews, Bo and Brian Vann.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to honor David's life and legacy. Blount County/Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland, AL, is assisting the family during this difficult time.
David's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his country, and his passions. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of love and commitment that will not be forgotten.
