Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donna Faye Hicks, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world on July 9, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on March 11, 1950, in Blount County, Alabama, Donna was a shining light in the lives of all who knew her, and her legacy will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and community. Donna was the daughter of Herman and Martha Prince Hicks, who lovingly raised her alongside her sister Denise. She was preceded in death by her cherished parents and her sister, Denise, who she missed dearly. The values instilled in her from a young age shaped her into the resilient and hardworking woman she became, known for her unwavering determination and strong principles. To Donna, a handshake was more than just a casual gesture; it was a commitment, a promise made in sincerity. She believed deeply in the importance of one's word and lived her life as a testament to honesty and dependability. Throughout her life, Donna was an extremely hard worker, dedicating herself fully to her family and community. She had a remarkable ability to put others before herself, always caring for the needs of those around her. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond mere words; it was evident in her actions and the love that she poured into her family. Donna found joy in the simple yet profound act of decorating her family's graves, a testament to her love and respect for those who had passed. Donna is survived by her loving son, William Keith Ragsdale, and her two daughters, Tonya Ferguson (Donnie) and Shea Palmer (Jason). She was a proud grandmother to Kayla Bentley (Aaron), Justin Ferguson (Layne), Chelsea Hyde (Travis), Shelby Godfrey (Harris), Dillon Richey, and Cheyenne Palmer, and a doting great-grandmother to eight cherished great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Donnie Ray Hicks (Debra), and her sister, Glenda Freeman, along with many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly. A funeral service to celebrate Donna's life will be held on July 12, 2025, at 11:30 a.m., following a visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Blount County/Cleveland Funeral Home. The service will take place in the chapel, officiated by Brother Steven Moro, with burial to follow at the County Line Baptist Church Cemetery. Donna's pallbearers will be her family members: Jason Palmer, Daniel Hicks, Harris Godfrey, Justin Ferguson, Dillon Richey, and Scotty Thompson, with Donnie Ferguson serving as an honorary pallbearer. As we gather to celebrate the life of Donna Faye Hicks, we remember her as a loving mom, grandmother, sister, and friend—a woman whose love knew no bounds and whose spirit will live on in the hearts of all she touched. Donna's legacy of kindness, determination, and selflessness will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. May she rest in peace.
