Essie J Blackmon

Essie Jane Blackmon, 81, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ms. Essie loved attending church and socializing with others. She never met a stranger and had a generous heart, always willing to give the shirt off her back to help someone in need. She took great pride and joy in her family and loved them deeply. She spent many years working in the restaurant business throughout the area, where she made countless friends and touched many lives along the way.

She is survived by her children, Michael Evans; Daryl Evans (Jan); Keith Evans; William Evans (Darlene); Diann Lindley (Patrick); and Thomas Evans (Judy Steipp); grandchildren, Jonathan Evans, Jessica Evans (Kayla), Jone’le Evans, Amanda Evans, Krissy Green (Josh Hill), Joshua Evans (Justina), and Joscelynn Evans; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Jessie Blackmon; brothers, Hoyt Blackmon and Junior Blackmon; sister, Geraldine Moody; grandsons, Jessie Green and Robbie Copeland; and the father of her children, EJ Evans.

Ms. Essie will be remembered for her kind heart, her unwavering love of family, her strong faith, and the warmth she showed to everyone she met. She never met a stranger, and her generous spirit left a lasting impression on the many lives she touched.

Her memory will live on through her family, her friends, and the countless people who were blessed by her kindness and love. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and always loved.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at The Chapel of The Cleveland Funeral Home, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at The Chapel of The Cleveland Funeral Home, with burial following at Mt. Joy Cemetery in Cleveland.
