Estelle H. Hawkins, born on June 5,1939, in Nectar, Alabama, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, in Oneonta, Alabama. She lived a full life dedicated to her family, career, and the community around her.
Estelle enjoyed a remarkable 30-year career at Blue Bell (Wrangler), where she earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues for her hard work and dedication. Her commitment to her profession was evident in every task she undertook.
In addition to her career, Estelle found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a passion for puzzles and word searches, often spending her leisure time engaged in these activities. A beloved family member, Estelle cherished moments spent sitting on the front porch, visiting with loved ones, and creating lasting memories. She looked forward to Saturday nights spent listening to the Gaither's Gospel Singing after enjoying her favorite game show, Wheel of Fortune. Estelle took great pride in spoiling her granddaughter, Meryn Banks, who was a shining light in her life.
Her loving family includes her daughter, Carol Banks (Chris); granddaughter, Meryn Banks; brother, Barry Herndon (Joyce); sister, Ezelle Hudgins; sister-in-law, Sue Hawkins; and a host of nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her warmth and generosity.
Estelle was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 61 years, Troy Hawkins, as well as her parents, Arthur Otto and Virgie Maybell Smith Herndon. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, TJ Herndon, Roy Herndon, W.C. (Dub) Herndon, and J.P. (Pete) Herndon, as well as sisters Ruby Lee, Margret Fay, and Inez (Poochie) Herndon.
A visitation will be held on February 28, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM, concluding at 12:30 PM. Estelle will then be laid to rest at Dailey’s Chapel Cemetery in Rosa, Alabama.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Enhabit Home Health and Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided during Estelle's final days. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
