Jerry L. McDonald, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished member of the Hayden community, passed away on April 4, 2026. Born on December 9, 1940, Jerry lived a life marked by honesty, humor, and a deep commitment to family, faith, and community. His story is one of a remarkable man who embodied the very best qualities of a true gentleman, leaving a legacy that will be treasured by all who knew him.
Jerry’s journey was rich with experiences and passions that defined him. A star basketball player in his youth, he was always a winner in life—not only on the court but in the game of life itself. A proud veteran who served honorably in the United States Army, Jerry’s dedication to service extended well beyond his time in uniform. He was actively involved in his Sunday School Class and was a devoted attendee of the First Baptist Church in Hayden, where his faith and leadership touched many lives.
Perhaps one of Jerry’s most defining joys was his profound love of horses and the equestrian lifestyle. He was a skilled farrier; a calf-roping champion, and a horseshoe pitching champion. His competitive spirit was matched only by his generous heart, as he taught many about horses and shared his craft with patience and humor. His talents and lighthearted nature made him a beloved figure in the community, known for making friends with ease and lifting spirits with his sharp wit.
Jerry was an awesome granddaddy and father—roles he embraced with pride and tenderness. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Judith McDonald; their loving daughter, Carla Yeager, and her husband, Allen; cherished grandchildren Trey Niblett, Hannah Niblett Hanson (Cal), and Matthew Niblett (Laura); and adored great-grandchildren Beckham and Roman Hanson. Also surviving are his sisters, Silbie Clark and Sandra McDonald, who held a special place in his heart. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Laverne McDonald and Opal Griffen McDonald, whose legacy lives on through him.
Those who loved Jerry will gather to honor his memory with a visitation on April 8, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Hayden. The funeral service will follow from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at the same location. His final resting place will be at Gethsemane Cemetery, 411 Armstrong Loop, Hayden, starting at 1:00 PM.
Pallbearers will include his devoted family members and close friends: Matthew Niblett, Trey Niblett, Cal Hanson, Houston Niblett, Larry Franks, and Marty Murdock, who will carry him with honor and love.
Jerry L. McDonald’s life was a tapestry of faith and family. His strength of character, warmth, and unwavering honesty will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we say goodbye, we remember a man who was, quite simply, a good man—honest as the day was long, with a heart big enough to teach and love many generations. His spirit and laughter will forever echo through the lives he touched.
