Joseph Charles Blackwood

Joseph Charles Blackwood “Joey”, 63, of Cleveland, Alabama, passed away on September 20, 2026. He was born November 21, 1962, to Faye Owen Blackwood and the late Charles E. Blackwood.

Joey was preceded in death by his father and his wife Anita Holt Blackwood. He is survived by his mother, Faye Owen Blackwood; his sister, Charlene Blackwood Hallman (Chris); his nephews, Nick Hallman and Noah Hallman; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Although lifelong disabilities prevented Joey from working professionally, he had a lifelong love of firefighting and was proud to have volunteered with the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department in his younger years.

Joey loved to sing and could often be heard singing the old hymns of praise in church. He and his wife Anita frequently visited other churches and shared their love of song with others. He also loved to tease and joke with family and friends, especially his Uncle Wayne Owen, who faithfully visited him each week. Joey was a big Alabama football fan but enjoyed telling fellow Alabama fans that he was going to start rooting for Auburn just to rile them up. His wit and humor will be missed.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Cleveland First Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at noon with the funeral following at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at High Rock Methodist Cemetery in Hayden.
