Marris leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and deep family roots.
Marris W. Holt, age 86, passed peacefully and entered the Lord’s rest after a long and full life devoted to family, faith, and hard work.
Early in life, Marris learned to drive a stock car, a passion that reflected his bold spirit and his love for machinery, speed, and the open road. That same drive carried into his working years in the strip mines, where he learned to operate and repair heavy machinery—skills that showed his determination, grit, and willingness to do whatever was needed for his family. He later became the owner and operator of a small trucking company, a role that allowed him to build lifelong friendships and earn the respect of many across the community.
Together, Marris and Wanda raised their two children, De Wayne Holt and De Anne (Holt) Gaynor, instilling in them the values of faith, goodness, and steadfast love. Their influence extended to their grandchildren — Grace Hosey (Trace), Benjamin Gaynor, and Elizabeth (Holt) Story (Kyle). As well as the great grandkids, Mallory Story, Coy Story, Mathew Hosey, Hudson Hosey, Henry Hosey, and Ivan Hosey—whose upbringing was shaped by the example Marris set through his firm-handed guidance, his strong presence, and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Marris leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and deep family roots. Those who knew him will remember his steady presence, his devotion to those he loved, and the friendships he carried through every season of life. Marris was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda Faye Holt, with whom he shared a lifetime of companionship and devotion; his granddaughter Elizabeth (Holt) Story (Kyle), whom he adored; his father, Coy Latham Holt; his mother, Imogene Grace Mewbourne; his sister, Shirley Estes, and his nephew, Mitch Landrum. Their memories, and his, now echo in the hearts of those who survive him.
