Martha Frances Ellis, born on May 1, 1931, in Alabama, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026. A dedicated educator, she devoted 25 years to teaching at Cleveland High School and previously at Emma Sansom High School. Martha was passionate about education and made a profound impact on the lives of her students, instilling in them a love for learning and a desire to achieve.
Martha graduated with a teaching degree from Jacksonville State University and was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization that honors women educators. Her commitment to education was matched only by her dedication to her community and family.
A member of the Cleveland Methodist Church, Martha took great joy in gardening and participated in local events such as the harvest festival in Springville, AL, where she delighted in observing crafts. She was also a devoted member of the Ladies Auxiliary, embodying the values of service and compassion.
Martha is survived by her two sons, Robert Ellis (Yang Yang) and William J. Ellis, along with her cherished grandchildren: David Brian Ellis (Mari Beth), Rhonda Lane (Rob), Mitchell Ellis, and Tyler Ellis. Her legacy extends to her great-grandchildren, Aiden Lane, Micah Lane, Paige Ellis (Clint Williamson), Bethany Franklin (Jarrett), Hannah Symthe (Jonah), and Chase Blanton (Ellisa), as well as six great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughter in law, Kimberly Ellis.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby Dodd Ellis, her parents, Roy and Lotti Johns, her son, Steven Russell Ellis, and her sisters, Mary Osborne and Katherine Claffee.
The visitation will take place on January 31, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM. The burial will occur later at Cleveland Methodist Church Cemetery, starting at 1:45 PM.
Martha Frances Ellis will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to her students, her deep love for her family, and her vibrant spirit. Her contributions to the community and the lives she touched will leave a lasting imprint that will be cherished forever.
