Mozelle Blackwood, a cherished soul known for her warmth and unwavering kindness, peacefully passed away on April 13, 2026. Born on November 21, 1928, Mozelle's life spanned nearly a century, a testament to her enduring spirit and the love she shared with all who knew her.
Mozelle was a remarkable woman, whose dedication and passion touched many lives. She retired twice from K-Mart, a career that spoke to her steadfast commitment and work ethic. Beyond her professional achievements, Mozelle had a deep love for camping and sports, hobbies that brought her joy and helped create lasting memories with friends. A devoted fan, she cheered ardently for the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, and the Alabama Crimson Tide, showing pride and enthusiasm that was infectious to those around her. Whether vacationing in the Gulf Shores or exploring the Smoky Mountains, Mozelle treasured the times spent with her friends, embracing the beauty of nature and the bonds of camaraderie.
Those who knew Mozelle often remarked on what a good woman she was—one whose heart was as vast as her smile. She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory forward: her son Donnie Blackwood and his wife Becky; her grandchildren Justin Blackwood, Lisa Smith, Vince Blackwood, and David Poe. These family members continue to honor her legacy of love and strength.
Mozelle is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Ray Blackwood; her sons, David and Ronnie Blackwood; and her brother, Billy H. Deavers. Their memories remain woven into the tapestry of her life, cherished and never forgotten.
The community will have the opportunity to pay their respects at a visitation held at Cleveland Funeral Home, on April 17, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This will be followed immediately by the funeral service at the same location from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. The final farewell will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, with burial beginning at 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers honoring Mozelle are David Poe, Justin Blackwood, Rodney Glass, Gary Redd, Randall Aaron, and Jimmy Bolden.
Mozelle Blackwood’s journey on this earth has ended, but her spirit, kindness, and love will forever be etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a beacon of goodness and strength, and she will be deeply missed. May her memory be a blessing and a guide for those she leaves behind.
