Ottis Copeland, a devoted family man, skilled welder, and avid lover of music and the outdoors, passed away peacefully at his residence on June 16, 2026. Born on November 15, 1937, in Alabama, Ottis lived a life rich with diverse passions and deep ties to his community and loved ones.
Throughout his career, Ottis dedicated himself to the craft of welding, a profession through which he demonstrated not only skill but also a strong work ethic and pride in his contributions. Beyond his professional life, Ottis was known for his love of music—he played the guitar, enjoyed singing, and embraced all genres with particular enthusiasm. Music was a constant companion, and he could often be found sharing melodies with those around him.
His affection for his beloved dog, "Snuggles," highlighted his gentle and caring nature. More than just a pet owner, Ottis considered Snuggles a treasured companion. His enthusiasm extended to sports, especially as an avid Alabama fan who enjoyed watching and celebrating college sports with fervor. Outdoorsman at heart, Ottis found joy in fishing, bowling, quail hunting, and taking memorable trips to the Great Smokey Mountains, embracing the beauty and tranquility of nature.
Ottis is survived by his loving son, William Copeland, and daughters Darlene Holder, Kay Thomas (alongside her husband Eddie), and Melinda McWhorter. His legacy lives on through a large and cherished extended family that includes nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who hold him dear in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill and Ava (Tidwell) Copeland, as well as five brothers and four sisters, leaving behind a family history marked by strong bonds and enduring love.
Family, friends, and community members will gather to honor Ottis's life with a visitation held on June 19, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home located at 17885 State Highway 160, Cleveland, Alabama. The funeral service will follow from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at the same location. Ottis will then be laid to rest at Hood Cemetery on Hood Cemetery Road in Blountsville, Alabama, where the burial service will commence at 12:45 PM.
Ottis Copeland’s life was a testament to the power of dedication, the warmth of family, and the joy found in simple pleasures. He will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him for his kind spirit and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
