Mr. Richard Lee Blackwood, age 88, of Birmingham passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 28th, 2017 at St. Vincent's East Hospital. Mr. Blackwood was a mechanic in the textile industry, after serving in the United States Army for a number of years. He was a friend to many and adored his family. Survivors include daughter Barbara Blackwood; brother Lowell (Martha) Blackwood; sister Loretta (Mike) Thomas; granddaughter Rachel Ramey; great granddaughters Erin and Sophie Ramey. Mr. Blackwood is preceded in death by his parents Roscoe and Nona Blackwood; wife Laura Etta Weaver Blackwood; son Richard C. Blackwood; daughter Laura Annette and son-in-law William Alexander Brown Jr. The family will receive friends at the Blount County/Cleveland Funeral Home on Friday, June 30th, 2017 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 30th, 2017 at 12:00 pm in the Blount County Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Mount Joy Cemetery, including Military Honors. Blount County/Cleveland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
