IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sherry Annette
Ellis
June 2, 1954 – June 5, 2025
Sherry Ellis, age 71, of Remlap passed away on June 5,2025 in a Birmingham Hospital. Sherry
knew her race was run and was ready to go home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Sherry
simply drifted off to sleep to awaken in the presence of her Lord!
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, George T. White and Billie J. White. As well as
her eldest sister, Rebecca White Burtram.
Sherry is survived by her only son, George Allen Ellis of Remlap. Her two remaining sisters,
Kathy White Ellis of Rainbow City and Etta (Leisa) White McCloud of Pinson. Sherry is also
survived by a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Sherry was born on June 2,1954 in Gadsden, Alabama. She spent her youth as a Navy brat, her
father being a Chief Petty Officer/Meteorologist in the United States Navy. Sherry and family
followed him to duty stations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Georgia. Upon his retirement the
family relocated to Birmingham, where her father took a position with the National Weather
Service.
It was after the family made this move to Birmingham that Sherry finished her education,
graduating from E.B. Erwin High School, Class of 1973. Sherry then went on to receive her
Associate Degree in Business from Jefferson State.
Sherry had a diverse career over her lifetime. She worked at Kmart soon after finishing school.
She became employed by an electronic company in the Birmingham area, where she learned
how to diagram and build control circuit boards. This field eventually led her and Allen to
Pana, Illinois where she worked at GSI Corporation in nearby Assumption, Illinois. There she
soon worked herself up to Supervisor of the Electronic Systems Control shop. After eight years,
Sherry answered a call from the family to move back to Birmingham to help with her ailing
parents. She and Allen moved back into her parents home. When she wasn't helping with her
parents, she held a job with Regions Bank until she, herself, became disabled.
Sherry had many hobbies, she loved to fish, gardening, crocheting, knitting and keeping up with
the going ons in Blount County via her scanner app.
Sherry, like most of her family, was a member of Carson Road Baptist Church until a dwindling
congregation caused the church to disband.
