Waymon Brewton Pitts, age 86 of Cleveland, Alabama, passed away peacefully January 17, 2025 at home with his family by his side.
Waymon was born November 24, 1938, in Shelby County, Alabama to William and Myrtle Pitts. Following high school in Shelby County he served as a cryptanalyst in the Army and was stationed in Japan, he returned to the states and began working for JM Tull Metals company, which led to him becoming Branch Manager for Reynolds Aluminum company. After working for 29 years, he retired. Waymon was not one to stay home and ran for Blount County Road commissioner district 4 and was elected. He served 2 terms.
He married the love of his life Jaqueline Hill. Waymon told her he loved her the day he met her. They were married in 1962 at 35th Avenue Baptist Church officiated by George Zbindin in Birmingham, Alabama. Waymon and Jackie settled in Cleveland, Alabama in 1973 where they raised two daughters. He was a loving father and loved his family. Waymon and Jackie have been married for 62 years.
He has been an active member of Cleveland First Baptist church since 1975. He served on various committees, appointed deacon, led the Royal Ambassadors, went on 2 mission trips to Guatemala and Columbia, taught Sunday School, led Bible Studies on Revelations and Daniel.
His hobbies included walking, golf, camping, visits to Gatlinburg and writing a book for his grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie: daughters and sons-in-laws: Sharon and Hal Blackwood, Pam and Phillip Whited, grandchildren, Patrick Dorsett, Corey Blackwood – wife Johanna Blackwood, Abby Blackwood, Anna Burley – husband Chris Burley, great grandchildren – Brooks Blackwood, Michael and Marleigh Burley, sister Janet Edenfield, nephew Mike West and niece Mitzi Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents William Brewton and Myrtle Estelle (Stone) Pitts, brothers Harold West and Jerry Pitts, sister Maureen West.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Cleveland First Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Cleveland First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Cleveland Memorial Garden.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Whited, Hal Blackwood, Corey Blackwood, Chris Burley, James Sullivan, and Mike West.
Blount County/ Cleveland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
