August 14, 1974 – May 7, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William "Tater" Warren Woodruff, Jr., who transitioned to eternal rest on May 5, 2025, at the age of 50. Born on August 14, 1974, in Birmingham, Alabama, Tater brought joy and laughter to all who knew him. He was a vibrant soul, always the life of the party, and his magnetic personality meant he never met a stranger.
Tater is survived by his son, Nick Woodruff (Hillarie), and his daughter, Talia Mayhall (James). He shared an unbreakable bond with the mother of his children and best friend, Melissa McKay. Tater's family extended beyond his immediate relatives; he was also survived by his mother Rita McNutt and her husband Danny McNutt, bonus dad Larry Phillips his sister's Shranda Horst and Tawnya Glover, his brother Patrick McNutt (Andria). He also had two bonus sisters, Kristi Farmer (William) and Sandi Smith (Victor). Tater was survived by his grandchildren Lilyann Woofruff, Weston Woodruff, Lainey Woodruff, Sadie Mayhall, to many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Tater's passions were as varied as his interests. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—squirrel hunting with friends, dirt bike riding on sunny afternoons, and immersing himself in video games. Family outings to the beach were especially dear to him in his younger years, where laughter and memories were made amidst the waves. His warmth and infectious spirit will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Warren "Spud" Woodruff, and his loving grandparents, Joyce and Pete Higgins. Their legacy of love and kindness continues to shine through the many lives Tater touched.
The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Tater's life at a graveside service on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Edgewood Cemetery in Locust Fork, Alabama. In honoring his wishes, there will be no visitation prior to the service. Tater's life will be commemorated by those who knew him best. Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick McNutt, Patrick McNutt Jr., Randy Turner, Christian Heaven, Nick Woodruff, and Danny McNutt.
